Journey To the River

A few years ago, I drove up to the Grand Canyon from Tucson to meet up with my dad, my brother-in-law, and my two nephews... They all came in from Chicago.

We were only there for a couple days, and it was a very pleasant reunion for "the guys..."  We did some easy hiking around the south rim of the canyon, took a jeep tour, and began walking down Bright Angel Trail for about 45 minutes one afternoon.  We turned around and came back up for ice cream... We were certainly not the most rugged bunch, though we were very happy to be together.

As a younger man, I'd done a good deal of intense hiking, camping, and backpacking, and I was starting to yearn for a bit more adventure while in/at the Canyon...

A Red Box Story

I recently fabricated and painted a box. Sounds rather mundane...

It all started when my daughter asked me to build her a play mailbox out of wood. She and I went to Home Depot and purchased some cheap plywood and some basic tools. She quickly lost interest in the project, and I thought it was fun to cut, nail, and sand the rough little piece... I think I made some little wood craft about forty years ago at summer camp - that was my prior experience.

Busy Not Writing...

I haven't been writing for a few weeks, and I look forward to getting back to that...

In the meantime, I've been excited lately about carving a new abstract wooden sculpture...

(This is not the sculpture I'm working on, and it's not even mine...)

I also recorded some classical piano, and I'm editing some raw footage for the second Warrior's Dance "Dream Series" piece...  In fact, the sound track of this next segment in the series will be to Beethoven's piano Sonata No.14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, or "Moonlight Sonata."

I had an opportunity to play this piece on a remarkable Yamaha extended grand piano at The Cavern Recording Studios here in Tucson.  I was told musicians come in from all over the country to record on this gorgeous instrument, and we live only a few blocks away!  What a treat... The picture below is not the actual piano I played on, and the person depicted isn't me either...it's Schroeder.

Anyway, here's a link to the 6 minute recording... The entire Dream Series segment should be done next week... MOONIGHT SONATA LINK

Thanks for visiting!

Peace.
